Job Description

Our client is currently seeking a Civil Discipline Engineer to be based in Peterborough. The purpose of this role includes carrying out optioneering and detailed design for infrastructure projects. Projects will be mainly wastewater related and you will ensure that the solutions developed give the best whole life value to the client.

The role will include providing technical support during the construction phase and project close out. You will also plan enabling activities to ensure timely work packages for the construction teams which are safe to construct, using off site and modular building techniques.

Projects are likely to centre around the design of water mains and sewerage networks, including gravity sewers, pumping stations, rising mains and storage facilities. Engineers with experience in either discipline, and those with both sectors are required.

You will need to be able to demonstrate significant experience in water infrastructure along with knowledge of construction processes and technical design. You will also need to be a good team worker with the ability to work independently, making your own decisions.

The successful applicant will have the ability to:

•Develop a range of solutions for each project, to take through the client’s Risk & Value process •Appraise options based on technical requirements, physical considerations, carbon impact and whole life value •Undertake preliminary designs for pricing •Prepare outline solutions, detailed technical designs (including calculations, specifications, drawings, risk assessments and pre-construction information), working with the construction teams to deliver robust and efficient solutions •Liaise with the enabling team to identify critical scheme constraints and impact on time, costs •Ensure design outputs meet CDM, Health & Safety, environmental excellence and compliance •Provide technical information and advice •Propose and or develop value engineered solutions (during optioneering and design phases) •Support estimators in providing sufficient and timely information to enable pricing of solutions •Support the wider project delivery team •Ensure provision of prescribed project deliverables •Liaise with customers, suppliers and third parties as necessary •Deliver required services (drawings, specifications, estimating packs) on time and to cost, quality standards •Ensure Minimum Asset Standards are adhered to and design criteria of the client applied •Ensure environmental targets and no pollutions or incidents through planned work systems and construction drawings details, restrictions and mitigation measures •Utilise the Company’s standard products and preferred arrangements

The successful candidate is likely to meet the following criteria:

•Significant experience within infrastructure •Degree, or equivalent, in Civil Engineering •Good knowledge of construction processes and technical design •Good team worker but able to exercise own judgment and work independently •Effective communicator •Ability to identify risks and opportunities •Ability to think laterally but remain critically objective in evaluating alternatives
