Job Description

Our client, a major global engineering contractor, currently requires an SCL/Sub-Agent for a permanent position in London. The Tunnel Sub-Agent (SCL and Squareworks) will be responsible for all tunnelling operations, including managing the Tunnel Pit Boss and Yard Foremen (Shift Superintendents), Shift Engineers and Lead Miners on site.

The Sub Agent will act as the Person in Charge (PIC) for the shift and have extensive soft ground tunnel experience in urban environments, including sprayed concrete lining (SCL) and Squareworks, ideally in a London Underground environment.

Candidates must also demonstrate experience in medium / large size projects in planning, packages procurement, set up and delivery of the works, supervision and coordination of the activities and working directly on site.

In addition, a good working knowledge of the following is required:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015
  • Management, Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • BS6164:2011 and other relevant legislation

The successful candidate will be/possess:

  • Educated to degree, or higher level, or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically an engineering discipline. A different educational level, typically HNC or HND may be acceptable where a very significant level of experience in a senior technical engineering role can be demonstrated.
  • Hold valid CITB Site Manager Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification.
  • CSCS Card.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK/EU and have a good working knowledge of English, both written and verbal, and be able to report at management level. The company is offering a basic salary of circa £50K plus a 25% uplift on agreed shifts. Lunch allowance and up to £350 per month travel allowance. Private Medical Insurance and Pension are provided.
