Geotechnical Engineer – Repository Design

NDA

A qualified Geotechnical Engineer is required with a sound knowledge of rock classification systems, data acquisition techniques and geotechnical modelling systems, particularly deep excavations. Previous experience working on large projects involving underground construction and the ability to specify and manage programmes of work to meet time and cost constraints essential, together with experience of underground geotechnical design.

This role, within the Radioactive Waste Management Directorate, offers the opportunity to be involved in the preparation of specifications for construction and engineering design information requirements into the site investigation programme, utilising analysis tools to develop geotechnical models for designing excavation, rock support and ground water management. The role will link between the repository and construction design and data acquisition through site investigation.

Candidates for this role should be qualified Geotechnical Engineers and have Chartered status.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, (NDA) is charged with ensuring the safe, accelerated and affordable clean up of the UK’s civil nuclear legacy. The NDA Radioactive Waste Management Directorate will develop into an effective delivery organisation to implement geological disposal of radioactive waste. The work they do is of vital importance and has positive long-term implications for the environment.

The position is based in Harwell, South Oxfordshire, with a salary of up to £50k plus bonus (potentially 30%) and relocation package where relevant.
